Love's Epiphany

I once disdained the thought of love
Equated it with death
I’d felt too much of hurt and pain
And vowed with my last breath
That never would I fall in love
I took an oath to pray
Believe me, this was true before
But false enough today.

Tread softly here -- Love has passed this way
Yes, even while I laughed to scorn the notion
Cynically decried There is no Love
And then Love came

The air was glorious with an added day
I saw the heavens opened far away,
And forth with bright blown hair and eyes-a-flame
With lyre-shaped wings, filled with the wind’s acclaim
Flew Love and deigned a moment here to stay.

My caustic past so foolishly proud
I dropped my eyes and cried aloud
In joy in rapture in hope in fear
But when I looked she was no longer near

Last night I met my own true love
Walking in paradise
A halo shone above her hair
A glory in her eyes
We sat and sang in valleys green
And heard the angels play
Believe me, this was true last night
But false enough today.
